The BIM Series – Part 3

BIM in Large Scale Multi-Location Projects

We continue with our series on Building Information Modelling (BIM) and how it applies for large projects as well as projects spanning multi-location. Such complex projects are fraught with a lot of setbacks which include cost as well as schedule over-runs. A lot of these risks can actually be mitigated by utilizing the power of BIM.
Another equally important aspect of a project is standardization and repeatability. BIOM provides a platform to share the building database across multiple project locations and the virtual model is amenable to easy replication and quick deployment.
Some of the features of BIM which makes it effective are enumerated below:

  • Cost Implications can be effectively monitored at every stage.
  • Good for construction (GFC) drawings are auto generated from the BIM model with incremental inputs
  • Labour can be trained on the construction methodology using the visual BIM model, resulting in increased productivity and reduced reworking.
  • Visual display of progress of work of all distributed sites at a central location for easy monitoring
